Building Value Added Teams

This week I have being talking to people about teams. What’s makes a good team and how do you develop one?

If you are like me, you would conclude that sometimes your knowledge or experience from your time growing up as a child sometimes plays into your leadership skills as you address specific things such as team building and management.

As a child growing up during my time, I was fortunate enough to have been in circles of people through whom I learnt the importance of nurturing teams irrespective.

Stepping into the real world and the marketplace, you begin to value several things which frames your perspective of what makes a great team just like the Avengers from ‘Mervel’

  • Diverse Set of Skills: Greats teams are considered outstanding when you witness sets of diverse skills coming together. Each skill set is like the layer of brick needed by bob the builder to create a masterpiece.
  • Centralised Goals: They share and manage centralised goals with ways to measure success.
  • Shared Support: One of the main reasons why teams are setup to function is simply to support shared goals and mission.
  • Leadership: A team without a leader may be considered a ship without a captain and setting sails without a compass.
  • Embrace New Ideas: Sharing and embracing new ideas has proven valuable to the growth of any team. What’s the worst that could happen? Either the ideas are obsolete, fit for purpose or too advance and requires the team to make several adjustments to make it adaptable.
  • Embracing Shared Contribution: Each contribution to the team is valued as important as anyone else.
  • Communication: Keeping good communication with your team comes at no price but adds value to the overall expected outcomes of your team.

So, what does your team culture look like? What’s your approach to building and sustaining a valued added team?
